Topic: The role of women in strengthening democracy

25 years ago, the Communist Era in Central and Eastern Europe came to an end. What has been achieved since 1989? In developing towards well functioning democracies in which rule of law, good governance, and democratic political decisionmaking on the basis of equal representation prevail? What important contributions of women can be acknowledged? In reports from different countries we address the contribution of women to democratic political decision-making, creating a Constitution and enforcing the rule of law, fighting corruption and strengthening societal structures in the Central and Eastern European countries. We will make an assessment of what has been reached until now and what is on our agenda for the nearby future to further develop endurable practices of good governance and democratic legitimacy.
